Roky Erickson and the good things in life

This song is seriously one of my favorites ever written. It’s beautiful simplicity and rough recording has a charm and sincerity that only a few of the best songs ever capture. Ive followed what Roky Erickson has done for a long time now (he is most famous for his work with the 13th floor elevators whose first album is my blog background). One moment in my life I saw Jeff Mangum (from Neutral Milk Hotel) play this by himself. Very rarely does one get to experience two of their favorite writers play each others music but I was here for this one. The moment when Mangum leaned into the microphone from his still and said matter of factly “this is a Roky Erickson cover” are the moments life are for. Though the original song still probably remains a mystery to the rest of the crowd, everyone was enchanted by this wonderful cover that was equally sincere. I strongly encourage you to look it up if you like this.
